Starting Sunday 8th November 2026 | 11am–1pm | £180 per dog
Ready to take your dog’s scentwork skills to the next level?
Join us at Seadogs Training for six weeks of exciting scentwork challenges, designed to develop your dog’s natural scenting abilities, build confidence and independence, and help you become a better handler.
This course is ideal for dogs and handlers who have already completed an Introduction to Scentwork workshop or have some previous scentwork experience.
Over six weeks, we’ll explore different search environments, introduce new challenges and develop your understanding of how your dog uses its nose.
With two-hour sessions and small groups, there’s plenty of opportunity for individual coaching, practical exercises and learning from watching other dogs work.
What Will We Cover?
Throughout the course, we’ll work on a variety of scentwork skills, including:
-
Container Searches: Developing systematic searching using boxes, bags and a variety of containers.
-
Hidden in Plain Sight: Introducing more challenging scent hides, including elevated, concealed and less obvious locations.
-
Indoor Searches: Searching around furniture, obstacles and unfamiliar objects, developing confidence and independence.
-
Outdoor Searches: Exploring how wind, weather conditions, different surfaces and environmental distractions affect scent movement.
-
Vehicle Searches: Introducing searches around vehicles and other unusual objects.
-
Woodland Scentwork: Using our woodland and natural obstacles to create interesting and realistic search challenges.
-
Reading Your Dog: Learning to recognise the subtle changes in body language and behaviour that tell you when your dog is working scent.
-
Scentwork Challenges: Bringing together everything you’ve learned through fun, varied and increasingly challenging searches.
A Flexible Six-Week Programme
Rather than following a rigid weekly syllabus, we’ll adapt the order of our sessions to suit the weather, environmental conditions and progress of the group.
If the weather isn’t suitable for woodland or outdoor searches, we’ll simply switch to an indoor session in our training barn and return to the outdoor activities when conditions improve.
This allows us to make full use of our facilities while ensuring every session is productive, enjoyable and appropriate for the dogs taking part.
The aim is to build skills progressively while keeping each session varied, interesting and rewarding.
Who Is This Course Suitable For?
This course is suitable for dogs of all breeds who have already been introduced to scentwork and are familiar with searching for a target scent.
Whether you have a gundog, a companion dog or simply a dog that loves using its nose, this course offers an opportunity to develop existing skills and enjoy working together.
Exercises will be adapted to suit the individual dogs and their experience, allowing everyone to progress at their own pace.
Why Scentwork?
Scentwork offers so many benefits for both dogs and their handlers.
It provides excellent mental stimulation, encourages independent thinking, develops confidence and strengthens the relationship between dog and owner.
It’s also a fantastic way to learn more about your dog’s behaviour, understand how scent works and discover just how capable their nose really is!
